✈️Can I book a photoshoot on holiday in Cape Town?

  • Book today, shoot today. You can book online from 8 hours ahead, so a same-day shoot is possible, subject to availability.

🌅What is the best time of day for photos in Cape Town?

  • Golden hour is the hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset. It’s the most flattering light of the day, and most of my shoots are built around it.
  • Sunset on the Atlantic side (Camps Bay, Clifton, Signal Hill, Bloubergstrand) is the classic choice. In summer the sun sets after 19:30.
  • The False Bay side (Muizenberg, Kalk Bay) loses direct sun earlier, because it drops behind the mountains before sunset. We start earlier there.
  • Sunrise on Signal Hill is quiet, calm and often less windy. Plan to arrive in the dark.
  • Midday light is harsh, so I use shade, the city or a studio if that’s the only time you have.

🌦️What is the best time of year for a photoshoot in Cape Town?

  • Summer (December to February): warm, dry and long evenings. The south-easter blows hard from about November to March, especially in the afternoon, so I pick sheltered spots and use the wind for movement.
  • Autumn (March and April): calmer and golden, often the best light of the year, and the winelands turn red and gold.
  • Winter (May to August): cooler with rainy spells, but the dry days between fronts bring dramatic skies and empty beaches.
  • Spring (September to November): fresh, green and getting windier.

📍Where are the best photoshoot locations in Cape Town?

  • Camps Bay and Clifton: white sand, granite boulders and the Twelve Apostles. The classic sunset shoot.
  • Signal Hill: the whole city, Table Mountain and the Atlantic in one frame.
  • Bo-Kaap: bright, colourful houses and cobbled streets. Go early, before it gets busy.
  • V&A Waterfront: harbour, boats and Table Mountain, great for city and couples shoots.
  • Chapman’s Peak: cliff-top views over Hout Bay. Big, dramatic and best at sunset.
  • Muizenberg and Kalk Bay: colourful beach huts, a working harbour and a laid-back, seaside feel.
  • Bloubergstrand: the postcard view of Table Mountain across the bay.
  • Stellenbosch and Franschhoek: vineyards, mountains and Cape Dutch gables, a full afternoon out of town.

Only have one evening? Choose Camps Bay or Signal Hill: both are close to most hotels, free to reach (within the 20 km travel zone) and great at sunset.

🎒What should I pack for a holiday photoshoot?

  • Your outfit, plus a second one if you like
  • A warm layer: it cools down fast after sunset, even in summer
  • Hair ties, clips and a little hairspray for the wind
  • Sunscreen, water and lip balm
  • Flip-flops for the sand, comfortable shoes for walking
  • Your phone charged, so you can find the meeting point and WhatsApp me

Full outfit ideas for each location are in what to wear for your shoot in Cape Town, and how to pose for your photoshoot covers the rest.

🚗How do I get to my shoot?

  • Arrive 10 minutes early. Your itinerary has the exact meeting point and a map link.
  • Parking along Victoria Road (Camps Bay, Clifton) fills up on sunny weekends, so give yourself extra time.
  • Uber and Bolt work well everywhere I shoot.
  • Staying in the winelands or along the coast? I come to you; you see the travel fee before you pay.

💼Not visiting? Shoots for Capetonians, brands and creatives

  • Capetonians: birthdays, couples, families and portfolio shoots, in the places you love or the ones you’ve never got round to visiting.
  • Brands and businesses: headshots, website images, product photos and content for social media. Brand and event shoots include a commercial usage licence.
  • Entrepreneurs and creatives: a month of content in one session, with photos and reels from the same shoot.
  • Extras: lighting R1,150, gimbal R850, wireless mics R550, drone R3,500.
  • Studio hire: a natural-light studio (R750 an hour) or a studio with lights and a cyc wall (R1,000 an hour), with a 2-hour minimum. Handy in winter.
